Question

Asked 7/23/2008

What cosmetic company(s) offer healthy make-up & facial skin care for women over 50?

I am overwhelmed by the tremendous variety and cost of moisturizers, primers, and foundations. I want as flawless a look as I can achieve with the inevitable lines & wrinkles that I have. I am blonde, blue-eyed, very fair, and prefer a natural look. I want to be able to "fill in" lines and wrinkles for a smooth surface, and a foundation that does not look thick or "caked-on". This wasn't a problem for me until I became older. I want to look good, but continue to take care of my skin. Is there anyone out there with these products?!

Most medical spas will have products that really help aging skin. Obagi is the top brand in skin care but PCA and Prescribed Solutions are also very good. You won't find them in department stores, only in medical spas. A lot of dermatologists also offer good skin care products.

Hello :) I prefer the natural look myself.

Mary Kay provides skin care/ make up line that priced at an affordable price and quality. http://www.marykay.com/

Also, I have been loyal to Artistry products that have rated better than some department brands and cost lower than the dept. brands... (they have been in the business for sometime and have a loyal customer past ranging from all ages) here is their site http://www.quixtar.com/products/thumbnail.aspx?pid =1484&ctg=1702

At age 50 (or before) it is good to have a good foundation skin care line, anti-aging make-up, and products to preserve your skin.

Let's start with the skin care line. Obagi is by far the best due to its cellular turnover capabilities. It is considered the "gold standard" among physicians and medical spas. If you prefer an over-the-counter product, you might try searching for "top facial products" and check out some of the beauty search engines listed.

There are a few really good anti-aging makeup lines around. For mineral based makeup, try TRUE or Jane Iredale. Estee Lauder also has an excellent anti aging makeup line. Ask for a free sample wherever you go to try them out before deciding on a line. You might be surprised at the differences.

To maintain your results, use a sunscreen daily. There are many good ones available. Aveeno for faces is very easy to use under make up and does not clog pores. If you use Obagi, they have a nice spf if your skin tends to be somewhat dry. You might also want to try using a vitamin C topical in the morning to protect your skin from "free radicals" which break down skin cells. At night, use a good Retin-A based product for anti-aging. Two good ones to try: Obagi's Tretinoin or Tazorac cream (by prescription). These both will help to rejuvenate your skin and keep it looking younger and healthier.

Best wishes!

As an esthetician, I live and breathe Dermalogica skin care, I am 50 and it's my brand. I constantly receive complements on my skin, if over-the-counter is more your budget, I always recomment Aveeno products. And remember to exfoliate!

As a semi-pro model and photographer, this is my field! I am an Estee Lauder lover. I have never been let down on a product. I am familiar with your look...My godmother who is an ex model herself and is now 73 years old has the same look as you. Blonde hair, fair skin and so on. She is an Estee Lauder junkie herself. Another great maker is Merle Norman. They along with Estee Lauder will do a makeover on you in the store before buying their products. I don't know about your thoughts on this, but to me you can't beat that! Estee Lauder has sales on items all of the time. You might want to try to go to Ulta.com as well. They carry alot of Estee Lauder items without the department store price. Go and have your make over, then visit Ulta.com. You won't be dissapointed!

Bare Minerals, Bare Naturals, same company make-up made out of natural minerals that goes on smooth and leaves pores breathing. It is powder like and stays on skin like nothing but looks like natural skin. It contains nourishing elements that when you wash your face everytime your skin is renewed. It can be bought online just google it. Also look it up on your phone directory for locations or online for locations. In my town we have a location where you can buy it . Also at night everynight I recommend vitamin e oil and avoid ever rubbing on your undereye area or wiping off roughly because it damages the skin under the eyes. Also eat a lot of fruit that is yellow, orange and red that will renew your skin and prevent future damage.Trust me

Oil of Olay products. Use the facial cleanser and lotion and serum or night cream. There's wrinkle fillers at the drug stores. There's another one on HSN.com. there's Insta Tox and Firma face. People swear by it. I would try that. Good luck.

My sister swears by Lauren Hutton make-up line! Lauren Hutton created a line that is specifically for women in this age group. My sisters skin looks absolutely flawless. The way Ms. Hutton has had her foundation created, it simply diminishes wrinkles and plumps skin up so wonderfully. Also, her lip colors are so full of moisture that your lips will look extremely youthful. It is truly make-up made from experience! Good luck! (click on link below)

I've always sworn by Clinique. I've been using Turnaround Cream for years and it works great for my skin, which is combination.

They have many good products, and I think it's worth it because I don't use a whole lot of products.

Bare Essentials is the absolute best makeup/skin care combination set. Best of all, if you are near a Sephora or go to Sephora.com, they are having a major sale on these products (they come in a line for several different skin tones). Try it out!

I've tried tons of different stuff, and I keep coming back to Dove. Why? It's super-gentle, doesn't have a lot of additives that can cause allergic reactions, and has a special line for mature skin that is really really nice. Plus, I really like their advert campaign about beauty coming in all sizes, shapes and ages - I know it's marketing, but they do also do quite a bit to promote healthy self-image in women and teenage girls (which I think is great!).

There is a company called Arbonne International that has a great anti-aging line. Their products are botanically based and chemical free. The products really are wonderful. You can see their products at www.arbonne.com.

You have to buy from a consultant, or become one yourself. But, the company sets up a way to become a consultant without having to meet any monthly sales minimums - they just give you the opportunity to buy the products at a discount.

Good luck.

For a natural look, you may want to try mineral makeup . Pick a shade closest to your skin tone and for your skin type. There are many brands out on the market and finishes; matte, semi- matte or maybe something with a little more dewy finish. With proper application (you need very little) and a little practice, It gives the most natural look that blends into the skin. If your skin is very dry, you may want to put on a light moisturizer first, let it sink then then apply your mineral foundation.

Paula's Choice is a great place to start -- inexpensive, pure ingredients, and easy to buy online. No multi level marketing or store overhead.
Paula's Choice products evolved out of product researching -- questions just like yours. Paula wrote a book titled, "The Cosmetic Bible, Don't go to the Cosmetic Counter without Me". All the major brand names are rated; and, all their ingredients are exposed.
Dermalogica is another healthy product, but much pricier. Depends on your skin and your budget! Best of luck!

Most make up companies have products that cater to various age groups, skin types etc. I've found that Mary Kay does a great job providing products for 50+. Also for skin care, try Oil of Olay.

Answer 18/18 - Submitted 6/1/2011

I personally love the Oil of Olay moisturizer with a touch of foundation. It has anti-aging and sunscreen in this product. I normally don't wear much makeup, but I am over 50, and I found this product to be superior. It goes on like a moisturizer but has a touch of foundation that evens out my skin tone and doesn't feel like foundation at all, and yet looks great. I don't wear anything over it, just my eye makeup, so there is no caking and it is very lightweight on your face. Works great for over 50!
