Organic essential oils are often more expensive than their conventionally produced counterparts, but many other factors play into price.
Sometimes the origin of the essential oil is more important to price than how it is grown. For example, at Eden Botanicals (a trusted source for high quality essential oils), one ounce of organic French Lavender is $20, while the Organic Bulgarian-grown lavender is $16 per ounce. The high elevation (non organic) French Lavender is $17 per ounce, while the Wild Lavender is $22 per ounce. That means that the Bulgarian Organic Lavender is the least expensive! Of course, all of these lavenders have different scent characteristics as well. It all depends on what you want.
Essential oils are generally expensive- it takes an enormous number of plant material to create a small amount of essential oil. For this reason, organically grown Rose Otto Essential Oil is $496 per ounce!
The best way to find the answer to your question is check a good website like Eden Botanicals or Mountain Rose Herbals. Both companies are reputable and carry high quality essential oils and have an extensive selection of organic oils available.
Remember, if the price seems to good to be true on an essential oil, it probably is. Watch out for adulterated or just plain low quality essential oils. Only buy from reputable companies.
