Body wraps basically work by making your body release water held in your body cells. Some claim to have a detoxifying effect, in that toxins are removed along with the water. But wraps do not bring about permanent weight loss as you do not lose body fat. Some therapists recommend using body wraps in conjunction with a low calorie diet and exercise, as the heat may raise the metabolism and enhance the effect of exercise.

As for the wraps alone, you really need to speak to, or find a genuine review from, someone who has tried the particular type of wrap you have in mind. There are varying claims made by companies providing these wraps, and not all are trustworthy. Some salons state that the results last up to 3 months, mainly owing to the purported detox effect. However, some testers have reported feeling slimmer for only a few days, no longer than a week. Even so, you can lose an inch or two this way and it may be an option for a wedding day or special evening out.
