A tooth abscess is a bacterial infection that affects the root of a tooth or the gum that surrounds the tooth. An abcess is caused by a broken tooth, tooth decay, or periodontitis (inflammation of the gums). A small pocket of pus is formed on the gum. The first symptoms are redness and swelling of the gums in that one area and some pain, especially when eating or drinking hot drink. At this early stage a dental abscess can be relieved and treated with essential oil tee trea. But this is no substitute for the correct treatment of the underlying cause of the ascess.

You will need :

Essential Tea Tree Oil
A soft/baby toothbrush or cotton swab

Tea Tree oil is a powerful antibacterial and immunostimulant treatment. It is particularly effective for the treatment of oral infections.

To treat a tooth abscess apply the Tea Tree oil directly onto the affected area with a cotton swab.
Also, pour 1 or 2 drops of the oil onto a soft toothbrush and brush the infected area morning, midday and evening.

Repeat these steps until the discomfort, pain and / or swelling caused by the abscess disappears - this should take no more than 3 days.

Please note : this treatment is recommended ONLY when the symptoms are mild and new. In case of headache, fever and general fatigue indicating a more advanced stage of infection you must see a dentist right away. Similarly, if there is no improvement after 3 days of this treatment go to see your dentist.
